We’re driving through one of Vancouver’s original neighborhoods, Gastown. Gastown was the original settlement that became the core of Vancouver. It gets its name from John Deighton, an early settler and saloon owner who earned a reputation as a very talkative barkeep. He talked so much the locals called him “Gassy Jack”!

We’re passing Victory Square on our right. The trees along Pender Street, which we’re about to cross, are the oldest street trees in the city! The city planted them in 1897.
