Hike Description:
Enjoy a guided 5.5km(3hr) hike a top the Niagara Escarpment starting with an apple tree lined trail before entering into a denser moss/fern covered forest on route to the keyhole (1m high arch) entrance into the spectacular Nottawasaga Bluffs caves. After exploring the main caves you will be treated with an epic lookout, a great spot to take a picture and break. Then we will explore the Best caves (long narrow crevices) and for those comfortable with a steep descend and an enclosed cave we will explore Freedom Rock (an outcropping that broke off from the Escarpment) and the Tomb (small adjacent cave), both having a series of aphorisms carved into the rock by an unknown 19th century liberal.
What to bring:
Water, snack, closed toe shoes, clothing appropriate for the weather.
Nottawasaga Bluffs Caves tour VS. the Singhampton Caves tour:
The Singhampton caves are all open, have taller walls making them more grandeur. The Nottawasaga Bluffs main caves are less numerous, but side caves offer more closed/underground discovery options and a larger lookout point.
