Discover the flavors of Atlantic Canada during a hands on oyster shucking class hosted by The Saltwater Social Raw Bar—Cape Breton’s only raw bar—on the patio under an event tent at Island Folk Cider House in Downtown Sydney ( 3 minute walk from Sydney cruise port)
Perfect for beginners & oyster lovers, this experience will teach you how to safely open, prepare and enjoy fresh oysters. Your host will guide you through proper shucking technique, oyster anatomy and the characteristics that make each oyster unique.
You’ll receive ten oysters to shuck and enjoy while learning how to taste an oyster and identify differences in salinity, sweetness, texture and finish. You’ll also receive a glass of locally crafted Island Folk cider and learn how different cider styles complement or contrast an oyster’s flavour
No previous experience is required, and all equipment is provided. At the end of the class, you’ll take home your own oyster-shucking knife to continue practicing your new skills.
