In Saint-Laurent, maritime and agricultural vocations have always coexisted. In the heart of the village are a marina for boaters, a quay, access to the coast and the maritime park with its old rowboat. Around it, the cleared land has been cultivated since the 1660’s and still provides vegetables and fruit today, by self-picking or bought directly from producers.

On the south shore of Île d’Orléans, Saint-Jean is recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in Quebec, notably due to its row of neoclassical houses from the mid-19th century.Saint-Jean, whose motto is “The land and the sea have shaped it”, is today a mainly agricultural territory where dairy farms coexist with fruit and vegetable crops, including potatoes and strawberry.

It boasts the largest concentration of stone houses dating back to the French Regime. Within its institutional ensemble stand two classified heritage buildings: the 1743 church, distinctive with its three steeples and red roof, as well as the procession chapel.
