Travel approximately 30 minutes from Jasper to the base of Athabasca Falls in Jasper National Park, where you'll gear up and receive a safety briefing and paddle instruction from your certified river guide before climbing aboard your six-person, self-bailing raft.
Launch onto the Athabasca River where rushing water from the falls pours through a narrow passage and into the wider Athabasca Canyon. The action begins right away as your guide navigates a series of Class 2+ rapids between the high rock walls. Surrounded by the canyon and wilderness, this first section delivers plenty of whitewater excitement in a remarkably secluded setting.
Further downstream, the landscape transforms as the canyon opens and the river widens into the Athabasca Valley. The rapids become more spaced out, giving you time between the whitewater to take in expansive views of the surrounding Canadian Rockies. With 12 km (7.5 miles) of river and approximately 1.5 hours on the water, the Canyon Run combines whitewater excitement, distinctive canyon scenery and spectacular mountain views in a family-friendly rafting adventure. No previous rafting experience is required, and ages 5+ are welcome.
