Making sushi at home feels a lot less intimidating once someone shows you how to stop fighting the rice. In this hands-on cooking class with Chef Giselle, hosted at a trendy local venue in Toronto, you’ll learn the fundamentals of sushi-making in a relaxed, beginner-friendly setting that’s equal parts fun and delicious.
Start by preparing sushi rice the proper way with rice vinegar, sugar and salt because great sushi always starts there. Then, Chef Giselle will guide you through simple knife skills for prepping shrimp and fresh vegetables so every roll looks polished and tastes balanced. Once everything is ready, you’ll learn how to spread rice on nori, layer fillings and roll sushi tightly using a bamboo mat. You’ll create both a shrimp roll with seasonal vegetables and a fresh veggie roll with avocado, cucumber and sesame seeds. Expect plenty of tasting, laughter and “okay wait, sushi-making is actually fun” moments throughout the class.
