From the Religious Wars of Europe, World Wars, the American Revolution, War of 1812 and the Canadian Patriot Rebellion, world events and personalities helped shape Québec. Many stories remain seldom taught or discussed.
Your guide will peel away these layers of hidden history, revealing the people, conflicts, migrations and ideas that shaped the Québec we know today. A researcher and local historian with more than a decade of experience, he uses genealogy as a tool to connect individual lives with broader historical events.
Designed for academically curious travellers, this immersive walking tour covers approximately 3 km through the narrow streets. Allow over three hours, as discussion frequently leads into overtime.

Terrasse Dufferin
Terrasse Dufferin — Beneath the Familiar From the heights of the 'Terrasse Dufferin", the Lower Town and the Saint Lawrence River stretch before you—a magnificent view that has witnessed centuries of ambition, conflict, trade, and change. But this is more than a viewpoint. As your guide reveals the landmarks surrounding you, familiar sights begin to tell unfamiliar stories. Behind the stone walls, monuments, and grand vistas lie forgotten characters, unexpected connections, and episodes that rarely make it into the standard history of Quebec. Look closely. Listen carefully. The landscape has stories to tell. Your journey into the hidden history of Quebec begins here.

Old Quebec
Vieux-Québec — Beyond the Familiar Travel through the winding streets of "Vieux-Québec’s Upper Town", where every corner holds a connection to the past. Along the way, your guide will uncover the people, events, and turning points that helped shape Quebec into the province we know today. Leaving the more familiar routes behind, we explore streets and places rarely encountered on conventional tours. Here, the story becomes more personal: the settlers who arrived in a new and often unforgiving land, the challenges they faced, and the lives they built far from home. But their struggles did not begin when they reached Quebec. They carried with them the traditions, conflicts, ambitions, and memories of the "Old World" they had left behind. Look beyond the monuments and discover the people behind Quebec’s history.

The Montmorency Park National Historic Site
Montmorency Park — Where Dreams Shaped History In "Montmorency Park", two remarkable and often-overlooked stories reveal how this small corner of Quebec helped change the course of history. Here, you will discover the determination of the early settlers who, alongside Samuel de Champlain, transformed a difficult and unfamiliar landscape into a place they could call home. Their struggle was not simply to survive, but to create a future in a new land. Centuries later, this same ground witnessed another ambitious dream—the gathering of people who sought to shape a new society and imagine a better future. Their vision was, in many ways, an attempt to create a “Utopian” world—an ideal that continues to inspire people today. Two stories. Two generations. One remarkable place where dreams of a better future helped shape Quebec and Canada.

Place Royale
The Lower Town — A Gateway to New Beginnings Against the picturesque backdrop of "Quebec’s Lower Town", discover the struggles of a fledgling French colony and the dramatic events that would ultimately turn the tides against it. Follow the story through periods of hardship, conflict, and "cultural revival", as the people of Quebec fought to preserve their identity and traditions in a changing world. But the Lower Town’s story does not end there. For centuries, this waterfront served as a gateway between the Old World and the New. Tragic events and upheavals across Europe would send new waves of migrants through these very waters, each carrying their own stories, hopes, and dreams of beginning again in a distant land. Here, history is not simply about those who arrived first. It is about those who came searching for a new beginning—and the Quebec they helped create.
