Montmorency Falls
Just 15 minutes from Old Quebec, Montmorency Falls plunges 83 metres (272 ft) into the St. Lawrence River — standing nearly 30 metres taller than Niagara Falls. It's one of the most spectacular natural landmarks in Eastern Canada, and a highlight of any visit to the Quebec City region. Cross the suspension bridge suspended directly over the crest for a dizzying view of the thundering water below, or ride the panoramic cable car up the cliffside for sweeping vistas of the falls, the river, and Île d'Orléans in the distance. The more adventurous can climb the 487-step panoramic staircase, soar across the gorge on the zipline, or tackle the via ferrata along the rock face. In summer, mist and rainbows hang in the air; in winter, the frozen spray builds a towering "sugarloaf" cone of ice at the base — a scene unique to the season. Whatever the time of year, Montmorency Falls delivers an unforgettable stop, framed by the elegant Manoir Montmorency perched at the top.
